Accessibility
"A Robin for every story."
Ricki Robin is committed to making this website usable for as many people as possible, including disabled users and those who rely on assistive technology. This statement explains our commitment, the standards we work to, what we've built, where we know we fall short, and how to reach us if you encounter a barrier.
Our commitment
Ricki Robin is built to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
We acknowledge our responsibilities under the UK Equality Act 2010, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of disability and requires reasonable adjustments for disabled people. For customers shopping from the European Union, we recognise the protections established by the European Accessibility Act (Directive 2019/882), which has applied to e-commerce services since 28 June 2025.
We treat WCAG 2.2 AA as the minimum, not the ceiling. Where we can do more without overcomplicating the experience for everyone, we do.
Conformance status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard. The non-conformant parts are described below.
We do not claim full conformance because no live website remains in continuous full conformance — third-party content, evolving guidelines, and ongoing development all move the target. Our intention is documented progress, not finished perfection.
What we've built so far
- Every interactive element — buttons, links, form fields — is keyboard accessible.
- A visible 2-pixel focus outline appears on every interactive element when you tab to it.
- Tap targets on touch devices meet the WCAG 2.2 minimum (44 by 44 pixels).
- Colour contrast meets WCAG AA across body text and interactive elements: 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and decorative elements.
- Form errors are shown with both colour and helper text — never colour alone.
- Required form fields are marked with the word "required," not an asterisk alone.
- The site respects your operating-system "reduce motion" preference. Animations are disabled when the preference is set.
- Auto-play is disabled on text content where it would interfere with reading.
- Every product image carries descriptive alt text.
- The site uses semantic HTML5 heading structure — one H1 per page, then H2 and H3 for sub-sections.
- ARIA landmarks and labels are used to support screen-reader navigation.
- Page language is declared in the HTML so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
- The site can be navigated, browsed, and purchased end to end using only a keyboard.
Compatibility
The site is designed to work with the most recent stable versions of:
- Browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge
- Screen readers: NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, and TalkBack on Android
- Operating systems: Windows 10 and later, macOS 12 and later, iOS 15 and later, and Android 10 and later
Older browsers and operating systems may not render every accessibility feature correctly. We test against the combinations above as part of pre-launch and ongoing checks.
Where we know we fall short
We do not claim that every part of the site meets WCAG 2.2 AA at every moment. Specifically:
- Third-party tools. Embedded services such as payment processors, reviews, chat, and instalment providers carry their own accessibility behaviour, which we can only influence indirectly. We choose providers with strong accessibility records and raise issues with them when we identify them.
- PDF documents. Some downloadable PDFs may not yet be fully tagged for screen readers. We will improve these as we identify which are most used.
- Audit in progress. A formal WCAG 2.2 AA audit by an independent accessibility specialist is in progress. Findings that affect the site's conformance will be reflected on this page.
- Disproportionate burden. In rare cases — typically involving legacy content or exceptional technical constraints — addressing a specific issue would require a disproportionate engineering effort relative to the benefit. Where this applies, we document the case and revisit it at each quarterly review.
How we assess and improve
Our accessibility position is assessed through:
- Self-assessment against WCAG 2.2 AA on every major design change.
- Independent audit pre-launch and at minimum once per year.
- User feedback from customers and assistive-technology users.
- Automated testing using Lighthouse and WAVE on key page templates.
When an issue is identified, we triage it by impact. WCAG-blocking issues take priority, followed by usability impacts, followed by enhancements.
How to tell us about an accessibility issue
If you can't use part of the site, or it doesn't behave the way you expected for your assistive technology, write to support@ricki-robin.com.
If you can, please include:
- The page where the issue happened
- What you were trying to do
- The browser, operating system, and any assistive technology you were using
We'll reply within 24 hours on weekdays. If we can fix it on the spot, we will. If it needs longer, we'll tell you that and update you when it's resolved.
Enforcement procedure
If you have contacted us about a barrier and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to escalate.
- In the UK: the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) provides advice on accessibility complaints. Visit equalityadvisoryservice.com or call 0808 800 0082.
- In the European Union: each Member State has a competent authority responsible for accessibility complaints under the European Accessibility Act. Your local consumer protection body or national accessibility authority can guide you.
- Elsewhere: please consult your jurisdiction's consumer protection or disability rights body.
Statement preparation and review
This statement was prepared on 10 May 2026. The website was last technically reviewed for accessibility on the same date.
We review this statement after every major design change and at minimum once per quarter. The next scheduled review is August 2026.
