Part of the Toolforged line, from Dean's Classic Cars. Every car in this line is built from the tools that kept it running (spanners, sockets, cogs, plugs and pressed steel), arranged until the shape of the car appears out of them. No badges, no wordmarks, no logos on the car itself: just the machine, drawn in the language of the workshop floor. If you have ever had the bonnet up on a cold morning with your knuckles bleeding and the radio on, this line was made for you.
Right car. Wrong materials. Entirely on purpose. The silhouette, the stance and the year are true to the car. Everything filling them in is workshop steel that has no business being there. A socket where the grille sits. Spanners laid across a roof. A calliper behind a wheel it was never bolted to. Go looking for a part in the wrong place and you will find one, and that is the whole point: this is the car as the tools that kept it running would draw it, not a photograph of it. Zoom in. That is where the fun is.
The warmer of our two crew necks. A 1978 Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom, forged from the tools that kept it alive, on a 350 g/m² brushed-fleece sweatshirt built for a cold morning.
Front three-quarter, sat inside a thin concentric ring with Dean's signature across the top. Look once and it is a Mk2 RS2000: the sloping droop-snoot nose with its four round lamps, the rubber boot spoiler, the four-spoke alloys. Look again and the snoot itself is a fan of spanners, the panels are pressed steel and tools, the bonnet is up on the overhead-cam four with its cam belt on show, and signal yellow is picked out on the handles. The plate reads RS2000 78, white with black characters, correct for a car of that year. A torque wrench lies across the bottom, engraved 1978 ESCORT RS2000. The RS2000 wore a polyurethane droop-snoot nose and a 2.0 litre overhead-cam four, and it is still the Mk2 people point at first.
Built from the tools that built it.
Dean's Classic Cars is one man's obsession, made wearable. Dean has spent his life around British cars from the era when you could still fix one on your own driveway, and every design in the collection starts from a real car, checked against the real specification, before a single tool is drawn.
That matters, because the people who buy these know. They know how many wiper arms a Series 1 E-Type carried. They know a Mexico ran a pushrod Kent, not a twin cam. So nothing here is decorative guesswork. Get the car right and the artwork earns its place.
At a glance: heavyweight crew neck sweatshirt on a Stanley/Stella Changer 2.0, 100% organic cotton, 350 g/m² brushed fleece. Unisex relaxed regular fit, sizes S to 2XL. Printed to order, most orders arrive in 5 to 10 working days. UK delivery £4.99, free on orders of £85 or more. 30-day returns.
About this piece
The RS2000 sits in front three-quarter view, printed large on the front of a Stanley/Stella Changer 2.0 sweatshirt (STSU178) in black. Spanners fan out to form the droop-snoot nose, pressed steel and tools make the body, with signal yellow on the tool handles, drawn in bright metal against the dark cotton so the shape reads clean from across a room. The car carries no maker's badge anywhere on it.
About the heavyweight sweatshirt
350 g/m² organic cotton with a brushed, napped fleece inside: the warmer of our two crew necks, and the one people mean when they say a jumper feels substantial. The ribbed crew neck sits flat without rolling.
- Fabric: 100% organic ring-spun combed cotton, brushed fleece inside
- Weight: 350 g/m² (heavyweight)
- Fit: unisex, relaxed regular fit, sizes S to 2XL
- Details: ribbed crew neck, cuffs and hem, set-in sleeves, double-needle stitching
- Garment: Stanley/Stella Changer 2.0 (STSU178)
The design is printed using a direct-to-film (DTF) process, with a white underbase on dark colours so the artwork shows up bright and detailed. Follow the care guide below to help the print last.
Mid-weight or heavyweight?
Every Dean's Classic Cars crew neck comes in two fabrics. Same artwork, different feel.
| Mid-weight | Heavyweight | |
|---|---|---|
| Inside | Smooth French terry | Soft brushed fleece |
| Made from | 80% organic cotton, 20% recycled polyester | 100% organic cotton, 350 g/m² |
| Best for | Spring, autumn, layering over a tee | Deep autumn and winter, instead of a coat |
| Price | The lower price of the two | A little more, as there is more fabric in it |
Not sure? Take the mid-weight. Choose the heavyweight if you want the warmer, softer one for the garage in January.
