Cortina Paddock Pass Seven Heavyweight Sweatshirt - Dean's Classic Cars

Part of the Racing Patches line, from Dean's Classic Cars. Every design in this line is drawn like the back of a 1970s race-team jacket: a banner across the shoulders, one big centre patch, and a row of small badges underneath, each with its stitched border drawn in. It is printed, not sewn on: the stitching is part of the drawing. The round Dean's Classic Cars badge sits small on the left chest, and the patches do the talking on the back.

The warmer of our two crew necks. A number 7 Mk1 Cortina on a paddock pass, on a 350 g/m² brushed-fleece sweatshirt built for a cold morning.

A red banner across the shoulders reads PADDOCK PASS. Under it hangs a cream pass tag, punched and on a short black lanyard, and on the tag a white Mk1 Cortina saloon racer wearing number 7, headlamps taped across for the track, cornering hard with a puff of tyre smoke behind it. Along the bottom sit three smaller patches: a green PIT LANE roundel, a red roundel with a stopwatch, and a mustard square with a chequered flag, with Dean's signature just above them on the right. In the sixties a Mk1 Cortina leaning hard on its outside wheels was one of the sights of British saloon racing, and this is that car on the pass you wanted round your neck. The car carries no maker's badge anywhere on it.

Worn like a team jacket.
